Regular Season Round 23: Tokyo Z - Yamagata 67-82
Date: December 11, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 3rd placed Tokyo Z (9-13) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Yamagata (12-10) 82-67 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 48-26 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Yamagata dominated on the defensive end, holding Tokyo Z to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Z's 26. The best player for the winners was American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). Point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) chipped in 20 points. American center Will Creekmore (205-89, college: Missouri St.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import guard Deon Jones (198-93, college: Monmouth) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yamagata moved-up to third place, which they share with Cyberdyne IR. Loser Tokyo Z keeps the third position with 13 games lost. Yamagata will face league's second-placed Nishinomiya S. in Hyogo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tokyo Z will play on the road against the league's leader Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
