Regular Season Round 23: San-en - Chiba Jets 84-85

A very close game took place in Hamamatsu between Chiba Jets and Sanen Neophoenix. Third ranked Chiba Jets (16-7) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd placed Sanen Neophoenix (12-11). Chiba Jets managed to escape with a 1-point win 85-84 on Sunday evening. Sanen Neophoenix was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. It was an exceptional evening for international power forward Ryumo Ono (197-88) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!). The former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-93) accounted for 22 points and 7 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side. American swingman Josh Childress (203-83, college: Stanford) came up with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Sanen Neophoenix in the defeat. Five Sanen Neophoenix players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain third place with 16-7 record having four points less than leader Tochigi Brex. Sanen Neophoenix lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the second position with 11 games lost. They share it with Hitachi SR and Niigata Albirex. Chiba Jets will meet at home Toyama Grouses (#6) in the next round. Sanen Neophoenix will play against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses (#1) in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
