We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Tokyo where 10th ranked Aishin Wings (3-17) were edged by eleventh ranked Niigata R. (3-17) 68-67 on Sunday. Aishin Wings trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 21-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 67-68 at the end of the game. Niigata R. made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) scored 22 points and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Mei Chi (175-90) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Niigata R. players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds and the former international center Kyoko Hamaguchi (181-90) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds. Niigata R. moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Aishin AW. Niigata R. will face higher ranked Toyota B SR (#7) in Aichi in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
