Regular Season Round 23: Toyama Grouses - Shiga L-Stars 66-79

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Toyama Grouses (3-20) lost at home to sixth ranked Shiga L-Stars (6-17) 79-66 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-66. Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. International guard Yusuke Karino (184-90) contributed with 25 points for the winners. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and Masashi Joho (183-82) added 13 points in the effort for Toyama Grouses. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shiga L-Stars moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Toyama Grouses keep the sixth position with 20 games lost. Shiga L-Stars will face league's leader Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyama Grouses will play on the road against Chiba Jets (#3) and hope to win that game.
