Very expected game when 9th ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (1-6) was defeated at home by second ranked Petrochimi (6-1) 85-81 on Monday. Shahrdari Gorgan trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 31-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-85 at the end of the game. American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) fired 30 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. International Behnam Yakhchali (196-95) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Croatian power forward Filip Toncinic (212-84, college: Texas A&M-CC) produced 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and center Mahdi Moradinasab (202-92) added 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Shahrdari Gorgan's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Loser Shahrdari Gorgan keeps the ninth place with six games lost. Petrochimi will meet at home Chemidor (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Shahrdari Gorgan will play against Kashan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
