Regular Season Round 9: Tartu U. - Latvija U16 73-55

Bottom-ranked Latvija U16 is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to eighth ranked Tartu U. (3-5) 73-55. The game was mostly controlled by Tartu U.. Latvija U16 was better in third quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Latvija U16 to just 6 points in second quarter. Tartu U. dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Latvija U16's 28. Tartu U. forced 30 Latvija U16 turnovers. Latvija U16 was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Estonian forward Nele Laurimaa (178-93) stepped up and scored 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Estonian Sandra Reinvald (180-99) chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Laura Meldere (180-1) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jete Nulle (163-1) scored 7 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tartu U. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. Latvija U16 at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Tartu U. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Latvija U16 will play at home against the league's second-placed TTT Riga (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
