Regular Season Round 6: Al Gharafa - El Jaysh 78-87

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Al Gharafa (2-1) in Doha on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by El Jaysh (3-0) 87-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Gharafa. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Al Gharafa won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. El Jaysh made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) fired 35 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) for the winners. Power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Four El Jaysh players scored in double figures. Guard Michael Taylor (186-86, college: Iowa St.) produced 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) added 14 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. El Jaysh have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Al Gharafa at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with Qatar Club and Al Arabi. El Jaysh's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Sadd.
