Regular Season Round 17: Salon Vilpas - BC Nokia 73-67
Date: December 16, 2016
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Salon Vilpas (11-4) beat at home 6th ranked BC Nokia (7-10) 73-67 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 6 points. Salon Vilpas forced 19 BC Nokia turnovers. American forward Al'Lonzo Coleman (201-89, college: Presbyterian) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and forward Matias Ojala (199-89) accounted for 14 points. Salon Vilpas' coach Joonas Iisalo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Niko Mattila (192-94) came up with 17 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American guard Isaiah Wilkerson (191-90, college: NJIT) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for BC Nokia in the defeat. Salon Vilpas have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-4 record having just three points less than leader Helsinki Seagulls. Loser BC Nokia keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Salon Vilpas will meet at home bottom-ranked UU-Korihait (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BC Nokia will play against Lapuan Korikobrat (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
