Regular Season Round 16: Caen - Vitre 82-71

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Caen (10-6) beat at home 8th ranked Vitre (8-8) 82-71 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 29-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Vitre outrebounded Caen 43-31 including 28 on the defensive glass. Vitre was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (196-90, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Mali point guard Ludovic Chelle (183-83) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Caen players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Guillaume Merie (198-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and Desmond Quincy-Jones (201-85, college: Pace) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Caen moved-up to third place, which they share with RAC Basket and St Vallier. Loser Vitre keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. Caen will face Angers BC (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vitre will play against UB Chartres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
