Bottom-ranked Adelaide Lightning (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 74-68 loss to sixth ranked Townsville Fire (8-7) in Adelaide on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 35-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for the former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Mia Murray (184-88) helped adding 14 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Colleen Planeta (188-88, college: Point Loma) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import guard Samantha Logic (175-92, college: Iowa, agency: LBM Management) scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Adelaide Lightning's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Townsville Fire have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Loser Adelaide Lightning still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Townsville Fire will meet at home Boomers (#7) in the next round. Adelaide Lightning will play against Sydney Uni Flames and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
