Regular Season Round 24: Nagoya DD - Hitachi SR 97-67

The game between Top Four teams took place in Nagoya. Second ranked host Diamond Dolphins (14-10) smashed second-best Hitachi Sunrockers (12-12) 97-67. The game was mostly controlled by Diamond Dolphins. Hitachi Sunrockers was better in second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Diamond Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Sunrockers' 24. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 37-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Diamond Dolphins players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Hitachi Sunrockers' players. The winners were led by American forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) who scored that evening 16 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Takumi Ishizaki (188-84) supported him with 13 points and 9 assists. Five Diamond Dolphins players scored in double figures. Even 15 points by American power forward R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. Point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) added 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Diamond Dolphins maintains second position with 14-10 record having seven points less than leader SeaHorses, which they share with Osaka Evessa. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side dropped to the third place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Sanen. Diamond Dolphins will again play against Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round.
