Regular Season Round 12: Barcelona - Azkoitia 73-69

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Barcelona (6-6) defeated at home 12th ranked Azkoitia (3-9) 73-69 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Azkoitia won third quarter 14-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Azkoitia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Gala Mestres who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Laura Lopez (171-85) contributed with 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. Senegalese center Marieme Cisse (196-95, agency: Josep and Nicolas) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Tamara Taylor (178-93, college: S.Florida) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Azkoitia. Azkoitia's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Barcelona maintains eighth position in Group A with 6-6 record. Azkoitia lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. Barcelona will face league's second-placed Sant Adria in Sant Adria de Besos in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Azkoitia will play at home against Ponce Valladolid (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
