Regular Season Round 12: Valencia - Leganes 68-74

LF2 top team - Leganes (11-1) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Valencia (2-10) 74-68. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valencia won third quarter 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Leganes won last quarter 20-16. They also forced 24 Valencia turnovers. It was a good game for American forward Christina Marinacci (185-91, college: USC) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Maria Espin (180-89) contributed with 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. Montenegrin power forward Kristina Rakovic (186-94) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and Esther Diaz added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Valencia. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Leganes have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with 11-1 record. Newly promoted Valencia keeps the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Leganes will face Olimpico 64 (#14) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Valencia will play on the road against Antiguo Boscos in Zaragoza and hope to win that game.
