Regular Season Round 11: AEK Athens - Doxa Lefkadas 84-60
Date: December 17, 2016
There was no surprise when 13th ranked Doxa Lefkadas (2-9) was crushed on the road by third ranked AEK Athens (9-2) 84-60. The game was mostly controlled by AEK Athens. Doxa Lefkadas was better in third quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Serbian Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: BeoBasket) who led the winners and scored 16 points. Bosnian forward Milan Milosevic (203-85, agency: BeoExcell) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four AEK Athens players scored in double figures. American Melsahn Basabe (201-92, college: Iowa) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and British point guard Justin Robinson (185-87, college: Rider, agency: Promotex) added 14 points respectively for Doxa Lefkadas in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AEK Athens maintains third place with 9-2 record having just two points less than leader Olympiacos. Doxa Lefkadas lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. AEK Athens' next round opponent will be Kolossos HH (#7) in Rodou. Doxa Lefkadas will play at home against Aiolos Trikallon (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
