Regular Season Round 11: Apollon Patras - Aris 64-79

Very expected game when 10th ranked Apollon Patras (3-8) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Aris (7-4) 79-64. The game was mostly controlled by Aris. Apollon Patras was better in third quarter 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Apollon Patras to just 7 points in second quarter. Aris dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Apollon Patras' 20. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Apollon Patras' players. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian power forward Tadija Dragicevic (206-86) who led the winners and scored 17 points. The former international point guard Vasilis Xanthopoulos (188-84, agency: Octagon Europe) accounted for 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. American point guard Anthony Hickey (180-92, college: Oklahoma St., agency: Alti Sport) came up with 16 points and 4 steals and Bosnian power forward Edin Bavcic (209-84, agency: BeoBasket) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Apollon Patras in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Aris. They moved-up to fourth place. Apollon Patras at the other side keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Aris' next round opponent will be Lavrio (#11) at home and are hoping to win another game. Apollon Patras will play against Kymis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
