Regular Season Round 11: Villeneuve - Nantes 67-74

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Nantes Reze (5-6) defeated on the road 6th ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (6-5) 74-67. It looked good early as Villeneuve D'Ascq took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Nantes Reze had a 15-13 second period charge getting the lead and Villeneuve D'Ascq was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-74. Nantes Reze forced 19 Villeneuve D'Ascq turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Canadian forward Katherine Plouffe (190-92, college: Marquette) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. German Margret Skuballa (186-87) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Ukrainian swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) came up with 23 points and 7 rebounds and international forward Valerianne Ayayi (184-94) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Villeneuve D'Ascq in the defeat. Nantes Reze maintains eighth place with 5-6 record. Villeneuve D'Ascq at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Nantes Reze's next round opponent will be higher ranked Flammes (#4) in Charleville and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villeneuve D'Ascq will play at home against Mondeville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
