Regular Season Round 8: Kashan - Gorgan 72-86
Date: December 19, 2016
There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Kashan (3-5) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (2-6) 86-72. It looked good early as Kashan took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Shahrdari Gorgan had a 20-18 second period charge getting the lead and Kashan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-86. The winners were led by Croatian power forward Filip Toncinic (212-84, college: Texas A&M-CC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and American-Guyanese Rawle Marshall (201-82, college: Oakland) supported him with 28 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Even 31 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) by Montenegrin point guard Ivan Koljevic (187-84) did not help to save the game for Kashan. Croatian center Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU) added 21 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Shahrdari Gorgan maintains ninth position with 2-6 record. Newly promoted Kashan keeps the seventh place with five games lost. Shahrdari Gorgan's next round opponent will be higher ranked Azad (#4) in Tehran and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
