Regular Season Round 8: Azad - Naft Abadan 65-68

The biggest surprise of round 8 in Superleague was guest Naft Abadan's (6-2) road victory over one of their biggest challengers Azad (5-3) 68-65 on Monday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 23-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Naft Abadan forced 20 Azad turnovers. The best player for the winners was international Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90, agency: Three Eye Sports) who scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Sajjad Mashayekhi (180-94) chipped in 22 points. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) added 11 points respectively for the hosts. Four Azad players scored in double figures. Azad's coach Farzad Kouhian tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Naft Abadan moved-up to second place, which they share with Arak. Azad at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Naft Abadan is looking forward to face Tabriz (#5) at home in the next round. Azad will play against Shahrdari Gorgan and is hoping to win this game.
