Regular Season Round 16: Coruna - Gipuzkoa GBC 93-88

The most important game in the last round took place in Coruna between third ranked Gipuzkoa (11-5) and seventh ranked Leyma Basquet (10-6) on Tuesday night. Gipuzkoa was defeated by Leyma Basquet in a tough game on the road 88-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gipuzkoa. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gipuzkoa won fourth quarter 29-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leyma Basquet shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Zach Monaghan (188-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato, agency: Duran International) who helped to win the game recording 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Dominican swingman Dagoberto Pena (198-88, college: Marshall, agency: Duran International) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Four Leyma Basquet players scored in double figures. American power forward Mike Carlson (206-91, college: Truman St., agency: Duran International) replied with 27 points and point guard Ricardo Uriz (188-80) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Gipuzkoa. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leyma Basquet moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Gipuzkoa at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Burgos and Palencia. Leyma Basquet is looking forward to face Melilla Baloncesto (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Gipuzkoa will play against Marin (#17) and is hoping to win this game.
