Regular Season Round 12: Irakleio - Aiolos Astakou 58-79

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Irakleio (3-8) was crushed at home by seventh ranked Aiolos Astakou (6-5) 79-58. The game was mostly controlled by Aiolos Astakou. Irakleio was better in third quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Irakleio to just 5 points in second quarter. Aiolos Astakou dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Irakleio's 26. They outrebounded Irakleio 40-28 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Aiolos Astakou players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for guard Nikos Kaklamanos (189-81) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Giorgos Brozos (198-86, college: Furman) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Aiolos Astakou players scored in double figures. Aiolos Astakou's coach Michael Koutalianos felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Dimitris Lolas (203-86) replied with 11 points and 9 rebounds and forward Ioannis Lianos (202-85) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Irakleio. Newly promoted Aiolos Astakou maintains seventh position with 6-5 record. Irakleio lost third consecutive game. Irakleio at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth place with eight games lost. Aiolos Astakou will play against league's second-placed Iraklis in Thessaloniki in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Irakleio will play on the road against Faros (#4) in Keratsiniou and hopes to get back on the winning track.
