An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Rio de Janeiro. First ranked Flamengo faced 4th ranked Universo/Vitoria. Host Flamengo (8-1) defeated guests from Salvador (6-4) 98-87. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Universo/Vitoria helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 25 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Christopher Hayes (203-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Universo/Vitoria's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-1 record. Universo/Vitoria at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Paulistano. Flamengo are looking forward to face Macae (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Universo/Vitoria will play against SKY/Basquete (#9) in Aldeota and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
