Regular Season Round 11: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Haifa 85-93

Date: December 25, 2016
There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Hapoel Eilat (5-6) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-7) 93-85 on Sunday. Hapoel Eilat trailed by 19 points after 3 quarters before a 30-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 85-93 at the end of the game. Maccabi Haifa made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American point guard John DiBartolomeo (183-91, college: Rochester, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American-Mexican guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-86, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Pro Sports) helped adding 18 points and 4 assists. DiBartolomeo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. American forward Landon Milbourne (201-87, college: Maryland) responded with 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard Pierria Henry (193-93, college: Charlotte) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Hapoel Eilat's coach Oded Katash rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ironi Nahariya. Hapoel Eilat at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Galil Gilboa. Maccabi Haifa will meet higher ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Eilat will play against Maccabi Rishon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
