Regular Season Round 27: Kumamoto V. - Gunma 86-67

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Gunma (19-7) on the court of first ranked Kumamoto V. on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Kumamoto V. 86-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gunma. The game was mostly controlled by Kumamoto V.. Gunma managed to win fourth quarter 34-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kumamoto V. forced 22 Gunma turnovers and outrebounded them 35-24 including 23 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Gunma helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for guard Yuji Kanbara (183-89) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 4 assists. American power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Masashi Obuchi (182-83) answered with 12 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) added 15 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in the effort for Gunma. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kumamoto V. maintains first place with 22-4 record which they share with defeated Gunma. Gunma at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. Kumamoto V. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gunma will play at home against Tokyo Excel. and is hoping to win this game.
