Regular Season Round 8: Hapoel Z/MM - Elitzur Holon 63-74

Date: December 26, 2016
The biggest surprise of round 8 in D1 was guest Elitzur Holon's (3-4) road victory over Hapoel Z/MM (#7) 74-63 on Monday evening. Elitzur Holon looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American power forward Atonye Nyingifa (180-90, college: UCLA) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. American guard Alexis Hornbuckle (180-85, college: Tennessee) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four Elitzur Holon players scored in double figures. American guard Alex Harden (180-93, college: Wichita St.) produced 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and her fellow American import guard Kim Demmings (173-92, college: Wright St.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Hapoel Z/MM's coach Nimrod Maytal rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Elitzur Holon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ramat Hasharon and H.R. Le-Zion. Newly promoted Hapoel Z/MM keeps the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Hap.Petah Tikva. Elitzur Holon is looking forward to face Ramat Hasharon (#5) at home in the next round. Hapoel Z/MM will play against Maccabi Raanana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
