Regular Season Round 9: Gorgan - Azad 45-68

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Azad (6-3) crushed on the road 9th ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (2-7) 68-45. It looked good early as Shahrdari Gorgan took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Azad had a 18-13 second period charge getting the lead and Shahrdari Gorgan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 45-68. Azad dominated on the defensive end, holding Shahrdari Gorgan to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Shahrdari Gorgan's 22. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) chipped in 22 points. The best for the losing side was American-Guyanese Rawle Marshall (201-82, college: Oakland) with 22 points and 4 steals and the former international power forward Sasoon Abramian (208-87) scored 9 points and 15 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azad moved-up to third place, which they share with Naft Abadan. Shahrdari Gorgan at the other side keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. Azad's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Army.
