The game had a very big importance for second-ranked FC Barcelona as it allowed them to take a leadership position. FC Barcelona defeated one of their biggest challengers Valencia Basket at home 94-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Valencia Basket. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by FC Barcelona. Valencia Basket managed to win third quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when FC Barcelona made 8 blocks. American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points. American-Kosovan forward Justin Doellman (205-85, college: Xavier, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 18 points for the winners. American forward Luke Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Rafael Martinez (190-82) added 15 points in the effort for Valencia Basket. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Valencia Basket at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Iberostar Tener.. Valencia Basket will play next round against La ICL Manresa trying to get back on the winning streak. FC Barcelona will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked CAI Zaragoza on the road.
