NBB top team - Flamengo (9-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifteenth ranked Caxias do Sul (2-11) in Rio de Janeiro 94-60. Flamengo made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The former international power forward Joao Paulo Lopez (205-81, college: Gonzaga) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 17 points and 7 assists. At the losing side point guard Patrick Vieira (186-93) responded with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and forward Dida Bellato (198-85) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-1 record. Caxias do Sul lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caxias do Sul will play at home against Pinheiros (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
