There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Maccabi Haifa (5-7) beat on the road higher ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (6-6) 82-77 on Thursday. Hapoel Tel-Aviv trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 30-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 77-82 at the end of the game. Maccabi Haifa dominated on the defensive end, holding Hapoel Tel-Aviv to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Maccabi Haifa forced 19 Hapoel Tel-Aviv turnovers. Strangely Hapoel Tel-Aviv outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 45-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for international swingman Amit Simhon (198-89) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Mexican guard Alexander Perez Kaufmann (191-93, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 21 points and 6 assists for the winners. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Hapoel Tel-Aviv dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Maccabi Haifa will face higher ranked Bnei Hasharon (#3) in Hod Hasharon in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
