Regular Season Round 10: Azad - Army 62-68

Date: December 29, 2016
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tehran: Army (#8) and Azad (#4). Azad was defeated at home 62-68 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Azad was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 15-8 charge of Army, which allowed them to win the game. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Army forced 28 Azad turnovers. The former international center Mohammad Torabi (211-92) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Vahid Dalirzahan (199-95) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side international Adnan Doraghi (190-89) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds and American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) scored 11 points and 6 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Army (4-6) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Kashan. Azad at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Tabriz. Army is looking forward to face higher ranked Naft Abadan (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Azad will play against Shiraz a.s Pipe and is hoping to win this game.
