Very important is a road loss of third ranked Joensuun Kataja (10-6) against seventh ranked Kouvot (7-9) on Friday night. Visiting Joensuun Kataja was defeated by Kouvot in Kouvola 93-82. The game was mostly controlled by Kouvot. Joensuun Kataja was better in second period 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Joensuun Kataja 42-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Rakeem Buckles (203-90, college: FIU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) accounted for 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. The former international point guard Teemu Rannikko (189-80) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 assists and American Rion Brown (198-91, college: Miami, FL) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Joensuun Kataja in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place. Joensuun Kataja at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Kouvot's next round opponent will be Tampereen Pyrinto (#7) at home. Joensuun Kataja will play against UU-Korihait (#10) and hope to win that game.
