Regular Season Round 24: Guangdong ST - Shanghai S. 116-107

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Shanghai Sharks (21-3) in Dongguan on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Guandong Tigers (20-4) 116-107. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Shanghai Sharks. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Shanghai Sharks' 40 and made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Shanghai Sharks 45-33 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Donald Sloan (190-88, college: Texas A&M) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Peng Zhou (210-89) who added 30 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) with 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (went 16 for 16 at the free throw line !!!) and French Guerschon Yabusele (201-95) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guandong Tigers maintains second position with 20-4 record behind leader Shanghai S. Shanghai Sharks at the other side still keep top place with three games lost. Guandong Tigers are looking forward to face Fujian (#15) in Jinjiang in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Leopards (#6) in Shenzhen and are hoping to win this game.
