Regular Season Round 29: Nishinomiya S. - Kumamoto V. 77-84

The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Kumamoto V.'s (23-4) road victory over second-ranked Nishinomiya S. (18-9) 84-77 on Monday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Nishinomiya S. won third quarter 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kumamoto V. forced 19 Nishinomiya S. turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Kumamoto V. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Takumi Furuno (179-93) who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. American forward Joel James (208-94, college: N.Carolina) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Noriaki Douhara (178-89) produced 21 points and Australian center Jordan Vandenberg (216-90, college: N.Carolina St.) added 8 points and 16 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nishinomiya S.'s coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Kumamoto V. maintains first place with 23-4 record. Nishinomiya S. at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. Kumamoto V. will have a break next round. Nishinomiya S. will play again at home against the league's leader Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
