Regular Season Round 14: Piombino - Moncalieri 58-77

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Piombino (6-8) was crushed at home by third ranked Moncalieri (9-4) 77-58 on Wednesday. Moncalieri dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Piombino's 22. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Francesco Conti (205-83) who scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Point guard Daniele Merletto (175-93) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. Point guard Simone Bonfiglio (181-88) produced 14 points and 4 assists and center Luca Malfatti (202-90) added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Moncalieri have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Piombino lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with eight games lost. Moncalieri will face Oleggio (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Piombino will play against Varese Robur (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
