Regular Season Round 12: Chemidor - Azad 68-70

Date: January 5, 2017
The most exciting game of round 12 in the Superleague took place in Tehran. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Chemidor (6-6) to fourth ranked Azad (8-4) 70-68 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Chemidor. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-15. But Chemidor won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) who led his team to a victory with 19 points. The other American import power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) contributed with 14 points and 4 steals for the winners. Four Azad players scored in double figures. Lithuanian power forward Povilas Cukinas (210-83) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Daequan Cook (195-87, college: Ohio St.) added 18 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Chemidor. Chemidor's coach Javad Rahmatipour tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Azad moved-up to third place, which they share with Arak. Chemidor at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Azad is looking forward to face Kashan (#7) at home in the next round. Chemidor will play against the league's second-placed Naft Abadan and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
