Regular Season Round 13: Trefl Sopot - Asseco 96-66
Date: January 6, 2017
There was no surprise in Sopot where 13th ranked Asseco (5-9) was outplayed by fifth ranked Trefl (9-5) 96-66 on Friday. Asseco was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Anthony Ireland (175-91, college: Loyola Mary) stepped up and scored 31 points and 6 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners and Serbian power forward Nikola Markovic (208-89) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Trefl players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) responded with 19 points and 5 assists and international guard Filip Matczak (187-93) scored 19 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Trefl. They moved-up to third place. Asseco lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Trefl will face bottom-ranked TBV Start (#17) in Lublin in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Asseco will play at home against Stabill (#16) and hope to win that game.
