Very important is a road loss of third ranked United (10-10) against fourth ranked Illawarra Hawks (11-10) on Saturday night. Visiting United was defeated by Illawarra Hawks in Gwynneville 106-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of United. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Illawarra Hawks made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game, while United only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded United 40-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. Illawarra Hawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American point guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) scored 25 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 12 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. American point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) responded with 21 points and 4 assists and American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Five Illawarra Hawks and four United players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Illawarra Hawks moved-up to second place. Loser United dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. Illawarra Hawks will meet at home Bullets (#6) in the next round. United will play against Cairns Taipans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
