Date: January 7, 2017
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Doha: Al Shamal (#8) and Al Ahli (#5). Al Ahli was defeated at home 69-74 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Ahli. Al Ahli was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 20-13 charge of Al Shamal, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 38. Worth to mention a great performance of Mohamed Haras who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field). American guard Tyrone Johnson (190-92, college: S.Carolina) contributed with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Ndoye Seydou Elhadj replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and Serbian point guard Branko Jereminov (186-87) added 23 points and 7 assists in the effort for Al Ahli. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Al Shamal (3-5) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Al Sadd. Al Ahli at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Qatar Club. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Arabi.
