Rather expected game when 14th ranked Gran Canaria (2-12) lost to twelfth ranked Zamarat (5-9) in Zamora 71-83 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Zamarat. Gran Canaria was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zamarat forced 21 Gran Canaria turnovers. Brazilian forward Isabela Lyra (180-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds. Montenegrin center Ana Turcinovic-Pocek (190-93) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Mali center Mariam Coulibaly (183-97) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and American guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Gran Canaria. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zamarat maintains twelfth position with 5-9 record. Gran Canaria lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Zamarat will face league's leader Perfumerias Avenida in Salamanca in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gran Canaria will play at home against CREF Hola (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
