Very important is a road loss of second ranked Bendigo Spirit (10-6) against fifth ranked Perth Lynx (10-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Bendigo Spirit was crushed by Perth Lynx in Perth 108-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bendigo Spirit. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Lynx. Bendigo Spirit managed to win fourth quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perth Lynx dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Bendigo Spirit's 32 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Perth Lynx forced 19 Bendigo Spirit turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Perth Lynx made 10 blocks. American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) fired 34 points (!!!), 6 assists and 4 steals (made all of her seven free throws) for the winners. Canadian center Ruth Hamblin (198-94, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Perth Lynx players scored in double figures. Perth Lynx's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Blake Dietrick (178-93, college: Princeton, agency: LBM Management) produced 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian power forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (188-91, college: Simon Fraser) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Perth Lynx moved-up to second place, which they share with Sydney and Bendigo. Perth Lynx will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Bendigo Spirit will play against the league's second-placed Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
