There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Oviedo (3-10) defeated at home higher ranked Arxil Pontevedra (6-6) 75-66 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Oviedo forced 20 Arxil Pontevedra turnovers. American forward Joy Brown (180-93, college: Iona) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and Ana Fernandez (175-93, college: Canisius) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side Mali center Minata Keita (190-89) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and forward Maria Lago (-92) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. Oviedo moved-up to twelfth place in Group A, which they share with ADBA and Valladolid. Loser Arxil Pontevedra keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Oviedo will face higher ranked Barcelona (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
