Regular Season Round 8: Al Riyadi - Homenetmen 73-66

Homenetmen (7-1) recorded its first loss in Beirut on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Al Riyadi (5-3) 73-66. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Homenetmen. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Homenetmen won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Wael Arakji (194-94) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Egyptian power forward Ahmad Ismail (205-76) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Five Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. South Sudanese center Ater Majok (208-87, college: Connecticut) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Fadi Khatib (198-79) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Louaize. Homenetmen at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Sagesse.
