Regular Season Round 13: Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hertzeliyya 99-65

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Bnei Hasharon (8-5) against eighth ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Bnei Hasharon was crushed by Maccabi Haifa in Haifa 99-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bnei Hasharon. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 34 points. They outrebounded Bnei Hasharon 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. Maccabi Haifa looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. International forward Oz Blayzer (199-92) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Jeff Adrien (201-86, college: Connecticut) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Stephen Dennis (198-87, college: Kutztown, agency: HMS) added 10 points respectively for lost side. Five Maccabi Haifa and four Bnei Hasharon players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi Haifa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Ironi Nahariya and Hapoel Eilat. Loser Bnei Hasharon keeps the third position with five games lost. Maccabi Haifa will meet at home bottom-ranked Maccabi K/G (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Bnei Hasharon will play against Maccabi Rishon (#6) and hope to secure a win.
