Regular Season Round 13: Korikouvot - Munkkiniemen 84-70

Not a big story in a game in Kouvola where 12th ranked Munkkiniemen (3-9) was defeated by fifth ranked Korikouvot (9-4) 84-70. It looked good early as Munkkiniemen took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Korikouvot had a 24-14 second period charge getting the lead and Munkkiniemen was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-84. Korikouvot made 22-of-25 charity shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Korikouvot outrebounded Munkkiniemen 52-29 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for swingman Teemu Knihtinen (195-98) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Henri Kantonen (197-97) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Four Korikouvot players scored in double figures. Forward Antti Hammainen (199-97) answered with 21 points and guard Pyry Marttinen (184-99) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Munkkiniemen. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Korikouvot moved-up to fourth place in Division. Newly promoted Munkkiniemen keeps the twelfth position with nine games lost. Korikouvot's next round opponent will be JyWe (#11) in Jyvaskyla and are hoping to win another game. Munkkiniemen will play on the road against Espoo Basket and hope to win that game.
