Regular Season Round 13: Maccabi Ashdod - Galil Gilboa 87-63

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Galil Gilboa (5-8) was crushed on the road by eleventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (5-8) 87-63 on Monday. The game without a history. Maccabi Ashdod led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Galil Gilboa's players. The former international Jake Cohen (209-90, college: Davidson) stepped up and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American center Jackie Carmichael (206-90, college: Illinois St.) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Maccabi Ashdod's coach Meir Tapiro felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American forward Eric Griffin (203-90, college: Campbell) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Michael Qualls (198-94, college: Arkansas) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Galil Gilboa. Galil Gilboa lost third consecutive game. Maccabi Ashdod will face higher ranked Ironi Nahariya (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
