Regular Season Round 14: Vitoria - L.Sorocaba 74-69

Very expected game in Salvador where 13th ranked Liga Sorocaba (4-9) was defeated by third ranked Universo/Vitoria (8-4) 74-69 on Wednesday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Universo/Vitoria made 39-of-46 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game, while Liga Sorocaba only scored seventeen points from the stripe. Universo/Vitoria forced 19 Liga Sorocaba turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international Arthur Silva (196-82) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Four Universo/Vitoria players scored in double figures. The former international forward Jefferson Sobral (203-80) produced 15 points and Ted Bento (199-80) added 11 points respectively for the guests. Liga Sorocaba's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Universo/Vitoria maintains third position with 8-4 record behind leader Flamengo. Liga Sorocaba at the other side keeps the thirteenth place with nine games lost. Universo/Vitoria will meet at home Paulistano (#4) in the next round. Liga Sorocaba will play against SKY/Basquete (#12) in Aldeota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
