Regular Season Round 21: Al Gharafa - Qatar Club 127-86

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#2) and Qatar Sports Club (#5). Al Gharafa (8-1) crushed visiting Qatar Sports Club (4-5) by 41 points 127-86. The game without a history. Al Gharafa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Qatar Sports Club's 40. They outrebounded Qatar Sports Club 60-30 including a 40-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Gharafa players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Qatar Sports Club's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American players dominated the game. It was a great evening for forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds. Swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) helped adding 24 points and 8 rebounds. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. Al Gharafa's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard James Justice (178-89, college: Martin Methodist) responded with 33 points (!!!) and forward Quinton Doggett (206-90, college: Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. Al Gharafa have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 8-1 record behind leader El Jaysh. Qatar Sports Club at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Al Ahli.
