Regular Season Round 15: Minas - Flamengo 60-89

Leader Flamengo delivered the tenth victory on Thursday night. This time they crushed 9th ranked Minas (6-8) 89-60 in Belo Horizonte. Flamengo dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Minas' 28. They outrebounded Minas 45-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international power forward Joao Paulo Lopez (205-81, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Drew Maynard (200-89, college: Rochester, MI) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Danilo Fuzaro (193-94) added 11 points respectively. Five Flamengo and four Minas players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flamengo have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Flamengo went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Minas dropped to the eleventh place with eight games lost. Flamengo will face Mogi (#9) in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Minas will play on the road against Vasco Da G. in Rio de Janeiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
