Regular Season Round 14: Petrochimi - Azad 73-66

The game between Top Four teams took place in Bandar Imam. First ranked host Petrochimi (12-1) defeated 3rd ranked Azad (8-5) 73-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Azad. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-10. But Azad won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Petrochimi had a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) notched 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and international Mohammad Jamshidi (199-91) supported him with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Four Petrochimi players scored in double figures. Even 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by American swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) did not help to save the game for Azad. His fellow American import power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) added 16 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Petrochimi have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-1 record. Azad at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Arak and Tabriz. Petrochimi will play against league's second-placed Naft Abadan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Azad will play against Tabriz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
