There was a surprise result in Parana where tenth ranked Echague (4-21) defeated higher ranked Olimpico de La Banda (13-14) 105-87 on Friday. Echague made 29-of-32 free shots (90.6 percent) during the game, while Olimpico de La Banda only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Olimpico de La Banda 33-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. Echague shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. It was a great evening for American center Derrick Caracter (206-88, college: UTEP) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Dominican guard Gelvis Solano (185-94, college: Merrimack, agency: Basket Management Solutions) helped adding 21 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Echague's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international swingman Adrian Boccia (195-82) with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international Federico Van Lacke (191-80) scored 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Echague maintains tenth place with 4-21 record. Olimpico de La Banda lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 14 games lost. Echague will face higher ranked Regatas Corrientes (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
