Regular Season Round 13: Haukar - Grindavik 89-69

Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Grindavik (7-6) and Haukar (5-8), which took place in Hafnarfjordur. 4th placed Grindavik was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked Haukar 89-69 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 20 points. Haukar outrebounded Grindavik 48-33 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Grindavik was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for the former international center Finnur Magnusson (207-85, college: Catawba) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American guard Sherrod Wright (193-91, college: George Mason) contributed with 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech) answered with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and the former international swingman Thorleifur Olafsson (192-84) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Grindavik. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Haukar moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Njardvik. Loser Grindavik keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Haukar will face higher ranked Thor Thorl (#5) in Thorlakshofn in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Grindavik will play at home against the league's second-placed KR having rather not much hope for a victory.
